The 21st annual Reelout Queer film festival runs from Jan. 30 to Feb. 8. This is a short but meaningful activity. The event is mainly held in the cinema, which is located in the city center, attracting more people to join the huge party. This is a movie theater with a small audience and strong privacy. During this period, it will put on some films different from the mainstream movies, which is different from the mainstream culture. The films it chooses to release are films with profound significance and social reality. When I joined this film festival, I felt that everything was very novel. The admission ticket was a color ticket instead of a black and white ticket. We don’t need to choose seats so the audience can sit wherever they want. The hundreds of seats in the cinema are literally packed, and there are even people willing to sit on the stairs to enjoy the film. Obviously, the festival is popular and loved by the audience. Before the movie started, the crew got on the screen, and when they got on the stage, I was surprised, wondering if this was a stage play. Later, when they gave their speech and introduced themselves, I discover that their identity has some similarity with the content of the film. Some of them are transgender, some of are homosexual. Their speeches were inspiring and empathetic, and they filled the audience with enthusiasm and anticipation. When the movie started, everyone was serious. Buy the way this was the most focused and engaging movie I’ve ever seen. The mood of the audience is fully stimulated. When it was over, everyone stays, I think maybe it’s because they were touched by something in the movie, they relate to the movie. Although the movie it’s over, but it’s meaning is sent to everyone over there, it triggers us to think deeper, to think about us in the reality. What’s our role in this society. The scene was silent for a while. No one wants to break the silence. Everyone is savoring every step and thinking about its potential significance. Every audience has a new understanding of this culture. This film festival brings people into a new world, which is undoubtedly profound and shocking.
